North Pennines Wool Event

Thank you to everyone who ventured to Upper Weardale for the second North Pennines Wool Event.  We hope you all had a good time.  For those of you who didn't make it, here are a few moments from the weekend.

The fleece auction.
Drop spindling - in the sunshine!
Natural Dyeing demonstrations.

And lots of goodies to buy:

Other attractions involved a fabulous demonstration of fleece quality and grading by Stephen Kitson from the BWMB, peg loom weaving demonstrations, eight shaft weaving demonstrations and spinning demonstrations using a big wheel.  Read more about the Wool Event here.

The Wool Event also saw the prize giving of the North Pennines Gansey competition - follow its journey on this blog.  The local Mule and Hebridean wool is currently being spun into yarn to be knitted into the winning design.  Ultimately the North Pennines Gansey will be available to buy in kit form.  Stay tuned!

Welcome to the North Pennines Wool Group's blog.

And what better way to begin than with our upcoming North Pennines Wool Event, 7th and 8th October 2011 in Upper Weardale?  Lots to see, lots to do, including natural plant dyeing demos, fleece sorting, wool auctions, Halifax Spinning Mill, Eden Gotlands, North West Wools and so much more.

And only British Wool in sight!

For full details check out the North Pennines Wool website.
In addition to the fantastic lineup of stallholders (with only British wools!), we have a few exciting wool/sheep related extras (including peg looms, lucets, sheep cards, breed books etc) on the North Pennines Wool Group's sale table.  We also have the daily fleece auctions, which will include Wensleydale, Shetland, Teeswater, Manx Loaghtan, Hebridean and Ryeland fleeces, various demonstrations throughout the two days and the spinning and knitting circle in the yurt at Killhope just a mile down the hill.  Plus, of course, there will be delicious food!  We'll also have the prizegiving for the North Pennines gansey design competition, plus exciting woolly raffle prizes.

We look forward to seeing you there!
